Asbestos Abatement Services
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that was once used in a variety of building and fireproofing materials. Exposure to asbestos fiber or dust poses serious health concerns, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned most asbestos-containing products in 1989. Any building material suspected of containing asbestos must be properly removed and disposed of by a licensed professional to minimize the risk of contamination. In some cases, it may be possible to fully encapsulate the material and seal the fibers behind a protective barrier. A licensed abatement firm like Martin & Associates Environmental can help assess your unique situation and develop a plan to safely address materials containing asbestos.
Asbestos has been used in over 3,000 different building materials, including:
Attic insulation
Floor tiles and adhesives
Insulation around pipes, furnaces, and boilers
Duct wrapping and seam tape
Siding and roofing materials
Drywall joint compounds and window caulk
Textured ceilings or acoustic coatings

Our asbestos abatement process is based on over 75 years of combined experience and strictly follows all OSHA and EPA regulations.
Our process includes the following steps:
First, we conduct a walkthrough of the property to locate asbestos and identify the areas where the material is present.
If the property is residential, we may take samples and analyze them.
If the property is public or commercial, we will request to see your asbestos survey. OSHA requires all public and private buildings constructed before 1981 and where employees are present must be inspected for asbestos-containing materials (ACM). If your survey is outdated, we can connect you with a third-party environmental testing company.
Based on the walkthrough and analysis, we will provide a recommended course of action and job
proposal.
Before we begin the project, we will set up a three-stage decontamination unit and a negative air pressure system with the required HEPA air filters.
Asbestos removal will be done by trained and certified workers wearing proper personal protective equipment (PPE) and following strict protocols to prevent spreading contaminants.
All asbestos materials will be disposed of safely according to state and federal regulations.
Every job is reviewed and tested by required state and federal inspectors before final sign-off.
Suspect your home or building contains asbestos?
call a professional immediately.
Do not attempt to remove it yourself.
This could cause even more contamination and expose people to long-term health risks.

Lead Abatement Services
Lead was commonly used in paint and other interior coatings before the federal government banned leadbased paint in 1978. In Michigan, an estimated 70% of homes and buildings were built before 1978, and therefore, have an increased risk of lead-based paint. Peeling, cracking, or chipping lead-based paint is a significant concern around small children who may try to eat it. Any renovation or repair in a building with leadbased paint can create lead dust, which also poses serious health risks.
Depending on your situation and the type of lead-based material present, we may recommend one of a few abatement options.
Enclosure
Enclosure covers the lead-based paint with a flexible wall covering or paneling. This typically works best for large surfaces that don’t experience friction, which can create lead dust.
Encapsulation
Encapsulation seals the lead paint with a specialized coating, trapping the dust behind a protective barrier. This is not recommended for areas where the coating could be scratched to expose the lead paint below.
Replacement
Replacement involves removing the object entirely and installing new material. This is usually the best option for doors, windows, trim, and molding.
A certified lead abatement professional like Martin & Associates Environmental can help assess your situation and develop a plan to remove lead-based paint safely. We follow strict safety regulations to prevent contamination and employ proper dust-free removal and disposal techniques.

Contact a Michigan certified inspector.
Getting in touch with a certified inspector is important because you will get an accurate assesment.
Do not attempt to remove it yourself.
Lead abatement can be extremely dangerous if done improperly. Even the smallest migration of lead based dust can be toxic, especially for children who are more sensitive to the damaging effects of lead.

Mold Remediation Services
If moisture and oxygen are present, mold can grow on any organic surface, including wood, carpet, and insulation. Mold exposure can cause allergies and affect the respiratory and immune systems. Some varieties of mold release mycotoxins, which can lead to more serious illnesses.
Working with a professional to address mold issues is essential to safely removing toxic mold from your property. Certified professionals follow strict procedures to contain existing mold and control the space’s air movement, including establishing negative pressure containment and using proper air scrubbers and HEPA filters. The EPA highly regulates the removal process, and its guidelines must be followed precisely to avoid the mold spreading to other areas. Damaged items must be packaged, sealed, and cleaned to eliminate spores on the outside of the bag.
We may recommend removing affected building materials like insulation or drywall and applying EPA-registered antimicrobials and fungicidal protective coatings. Our team will work with you to develop a mold remediation strategy that removes mold and addresses the cause of the problem so it does not happen again in the future.
